Ocean Beach Ambisonic Ambience

This is a collection of immersive, ambisonic recordings of the ambient sounds of Ocean Beach, San Francisco, California. The recordings were captured in November of 2022, both in the morning and in the afternoon.  They were recorded at distances of approximately 100m, 50m and 10m from the water.

As you approach Ocean Beach, the first thing you’ll notice is the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore. The sound is constant and powerful, with each wave bringing a rush of water that hits the sand with a deep, rumbling sound. As the waves retreat back into the ocean, they create a gentle hissing sound that fades into the background. Distant people and the infamous crows of Ocean Beach can be heard in the ambience.

These are 32 bit/96k files, recorded with a Sennheiser Ambeo Mic and a Zoom F6 with Rycote wind protection. The sounds were rendered in Reaper using the Sennheiser Ambeo A-B Converter plugin.  Download the plugin for free here.
